Doctor of Agronomic Engineering from the University of Lleida (1995). Since 1992, he has worked at the Institute of Agrofood Research and Technology -IRTA as a researcher. He has been the Coordinator of the Sustainable Plant Protection Programme at IRTA, and is currently the head of the Post-Harvest Programme and the director of the Post-Harvest Technical Service at IRTA. He is also the coordinator of the Fruit.Net Programme for the optimisation of the application of phytosanitary products and the reduction of residues on fruit of Catalonia.

His main area of research is the development of strategies for the control of post-harvest disease in fruit and food-transmitted pathogens in fruit and vegetables for raw and minimally processed consumption. He has also worked in other areas related to fruit quality and improvements in the shelf life of fruit.

He has participated in 19 Spanish research projects (CICYT, INIA, PETRI), in 2 European Union Framework Programmes (for one of which he was the vice-coordinator) and in a further 5 international projects. Of these, he has been the main researcher on 3 CICYT and 1 INIA projects and has coordinated 1 CYTED project on an international level.

He has participated in 15 major business contracts and, as part of the Post-Harvest Technical Service, he has advised more than 100 companies in the sector on post-harvest handling, both in Spain and Portugal.

He has made research visits to the Appalachian Fruit Research Station (ARS-USDA; KEARNEYSVILLE, USA), the Horticultural Crops Research Laboratory (ARS-USDA; Fresno, USA), the University of the Algarve (Portugal) and the Ruakura Research Centre (HortResearch, New Zealand).

He has published more than 100 articles in international SCI-indexed impact journals, written 9 book chapters, coordinated the publication of 3 books and written around 60 specialist articles. He has been a guest speaker 11 times and presented 140 reports at both national and international congresses.

He has directed 9 PhD theses and participates in the Master's Degree Programme in Food Industry Management and Innovation at the University of Lleida.

He has been invited to give conferences and international courses in Portugal, Sweden, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Guatemala, Bolivia and Ecuador.
