PhD in Agricultural Engineering (1978) from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Full Professor of Agricultural Entomology (1986).

He has taught at the following universities: Polytechnic University of Madrid (1976-78), Technical University of Catalonia (1979-1992), and University of Lleida (1992-present).

He currently works at the CERCA Agrotecnio agricultural research centre in Lleida, in the area of ecology and agricultural pest control, specialising in biological and integrated control.

He has worked on protected and open-field vegetable farming, and on extensive farming of winter cereals, maize and alfalfa.

He has published over a hundred scientific articles in his area of speciality, primarily in journals included in Journal Citation Reports.

He is a regular speaker in Europe on measuring the impact of transgenic varieties on non-target arthropods.

Past vice-chair, past treasurer, and currently honorary member of the International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control.
